Beheaded Man Identified as Part of Drug Ring

Posted on 28 October 2010 by johnd

An identity has been placed on the man who was beheaded and found on the floor of a Chandler apartment.

The headless man, 38 year old Martin Cota-Monroy, was from Mexico and may have been killed in connection with a drug cartel. Three of the four suspects remain on the loose and are probably back in Mexico, according to authorities. Juan Campos Aguilar, Jose David Castro Reyes and a man known as “El Joto” are on the run in a 2003 Red Ford Expedition with California license plate No. 6FWR784.

Initial reports state that his death may have been attributed to a ritual entitled “Santa Muerte” due to the findings of candles and a Ouija board in the apartment. However, police say that there was nothing ritualistic about the murder and the items found were a part of a discussion that got heated.

Crisantos Moroyoqui has been arrested in connection with the murder, and isn’t cooperating with authorities.

Grandmother Beats Burglar With Bed Post

Posted on 27 October 2010 by johnd

A Chandler family showed exemplary teamwork in fending off a burglar from their home early Sunday – especially the efforts of a tough grandma.

Elizabeth Wade was watching a man rooting around through her purse in their car at around midnight. When the burglar saw Elizabeth, he ran towards the home, grabbed her and ordered her to not call police. Her 11 year old daughter Ivory ran to her grandmother and informed her of the situation, who then stormed down the stairs with a metal bed frame post.

Drunk neighbor-burglar Cedric Galloway, a mere 18 years old, was down for the count courtesy of the 80 year old. She beat him senseless with the post, needless to say.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary, criminal trespass, disorderly conduct and assault after coming to his senses in a nearby hospital.

Arizona Suicides Increasing Rapidly

Posted on 21 October 2010 by johnd

Health officials are extremely concerned about the increase in Arizona suicides.

There were 15.4 suicides per 100,000 people in 2007 – that number shot up to 16.1 per 100,000 people last year, with a consistent rise in suicides over the past 10 years. According to Arizona health service officials, this kind of trend is nothing new for Western states.

The reasoning behind Western states’ propensity for higher suicide rates is unknown, but speculation suggests the increasing unemployment rate could be a cause. Arizona’s unemployment rate was at 9.7 percent in August, the highest number seen in 30 years.

To address this growing concern, the Arizona Suicide Prevention Coalition is holding a statewide conference discussing the numbers, causes and ways to prevent suicide. Raising awareness of suicide to a point that breaks the norm of keeping suicidal thoughts inside is a big goal for the state, and the conference hopes to aid in the effort.

The national suicide rate is 11.3 per 100,000 people, according to the most recent numbers.

The most recent national rate, from 2007, is 11.3 suicides per 100,000 people. If you feel like you  may soon become part of this statistic, help is out there. Below are some places to get information and help regarding suicide and suicide prevention:

• Arizona Suicide Prevention Coalition, www.azspc.org, is hosting a statewide conference Oct. 21-22 which will feature Alan Berman, a national expert, who will speak on suicide and bullying.

• National Suicide Prevention Lifeline, (800) 273-8255 or www.suicidepreventionlifeline.org

Trucking Industry Facing Many Roadblocks

Posted on 18 October 2010 by johnd

The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI), the trucking industry’s not-for-profit research institute, today unveiled its list of the top ten critical issues facing the North American trucking industry.

The state of the economy tops the list in ATRI’s survey of more than 4,000 trucking industry executives.  The complete results were released at the 2010 Management Conference and Exhibition of the American Trucking Associations (ATA) meeting in Phoenix, the nation’s largest gathering of motor carrier executives.  The ATRI Top Industry Issues report also solicited and tabulated specific strategies for addressing each issue.

The Comprehensive Safety Analysis 2010 (CSA 2010), the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration’s new regulatory framework for evaluating carrier and driver safety, debuted on the list in a close second to the economy this year.  Government regulation, which was the second most pressing issue last year, remained near the top of the list at spot number three.  The driver shortage returned to the top ten list this year, in a sign that carriers have a growing concern over finding enough drivers to meet increased freight demand as the economy rebounds.

The ATA-commissioned survey results and proposed strategies will be utilized by the ATA Federation to better focus its advocacy role on behalf of the U.S. trucking industry and ATA Federation stakeholders.

“ATRI’s annual survey gives us a clear roadmap of the strategies we collectively need to pursue as an industry,” said ATA Chairman Tommy Hodges (Titan Transfer, Shelbyville, TN).

“It is vital for the trucking industry to stay abreast of the issues and policies that have a profound impact on how we move America’s freight safely and efficiently, said Bill Graves, ATA President and CEO.  Not only must we be prepared to support initiatives that are based on well-founded research and thought, but we must also be ready to vigorously debate initiatives which lack research and practicality.”

ATRI is the trucking industry’s 501(c)(3) not-for-profit research organization.  It is engaged in critical research relating to freight transportation’s essential role in maintaining a safe, secure and efficient transportation system.  A copy of the survey results is available from ATRI at www.atri-online.org.

Famous Phoenix Doctor a Victim of Fraud

Posted on 14 October 2010 by johnd

The life work of Dr. Scott Connelly (the founder of MET-Rx), a priceless legacy of years of work and millions of dollars of research efforts in the domain of dairy bioactive proteins — has been derailed by a convicted felon who has been under the FBI’s vigilance since he was granted a conditioned release pending sentencing for his role in a $20 million fraud involving several major lending institutions.

In 2007, Adam Stuart Zuckerman was convicted of defrauding several banks in a scheme which the FBI calls “Operation Lease Fleece.” After pleading guilty, Mr. Zuckerman was granted a conditioned release and delayed sentencing date for reasons unknown, at which time it appears he proceeded to set up a similar scam using a series of shell companies designed to create the illusion of investing money into biotechnology companies. Enter Dr. Scott Connelly.

“Isolated dairy “bioactive” proteins are so powerful, they can heal and regenerate tissue at an amazing speed.” Connelly explained. Dr. Connelly has spent the last 30 years of his career documenting and exploiting the growth factors found in dairy bioactive proteins for healing and regenerative processes. He then joined forces with Murray Goulburn Nutritionals, an Australian company, to realize his greatest contribution to medicine yet. In order to fund this endeavor, he was introduced to Zuckerman, who concealed his true identity by dropping his last name and simply going by Adam Stuart. Zuckerman represented that he controlled a series of companies including Mercury Ventures and VenturePharma that had access to millions in investment capital and could easily raise the seed capital Dr. Connelly needed. The truth is that Zuckerman did not have access to investment capital and defrauded Dr. Connelly and numerous other investors out of millions of dollars. Dr. Connelly now stands to lose his life’s work and intellectual property—a priceless legacy in advancement of medicine that could potentially benefit millions of patients worldwide–due to Zuckerman’s actions.

On a recent episode of Super Human Radio, Dr. Connelly detailed the chronology of the scam and how Adam Stuart Zuckerman built an array of nested business entities over a 2 year period — while supposedly under the watchful eye of the FBI. You can hear the episode in its entirety at:

The man in custody, 36 year old Cristanos Moroyoqui, is charged with second degree murder and hindering prosecution. He lived close to the victim and apparently knew him well, according to police. One of the men who was living with the accused murder noticed his bloody shoes and tipped off police. In addition, Moroyoqui is an illegal immigrant.

There was heavy drinking going on the night of the murder, and some of the men left the apartment to go to a casino. An hour later, the men at the apartment awoke to the headless carcass.

Lawyers Withdraw From Baby Gabriel Case

Posted on 11 October 2010 by johnd

Baby Gabriel Still Missing in Winding Case

Lawyers representing person of interest Tammi Smith in the missing baby Gabriel case are no longer representing the woman, according to court documents that state she can’t afford their services. They suggested that Smith should be provided a court-appointed attorney.

The case, which has been ongoing since December of 2009,  states that Elizabeth Johnson ran away with baby Gabriel to San Antonio during a custody battle with her husband. The 24 year old mother from Tempe was charged with kidnapping, felony child abuse, custodial interference and conspiracy to commit custodial interference. She is currently in a Maricopa County jail.

Gabriel

Attempted Adopting of Gabriel

Smith comes into the picture with charges of forgery, custodial interference and conspiracy to commit custodial interference as well. Apparently, Smith and her husband were trying to adopt Gabriel from Johnson during the investigation. However, Johnson told her embattled boyfriend, Gabriel’s father, that she killed Gabriel and stuck his body in a diaper bag via text message on December 27. Interestingly enough, she told FBI agents when she was arrested December 30 that she gave the baby away to a couple of strangers in San Antonio.

Police believe Smith was making a plan to pick the baby up somewhere in Tennessee, where she once held a colon cleansing business. Simply put, she was trying to force a deal to adopt the baby while no one but Johnson knew where he was.The baby’s father refused to sign any paperwork to give the baby up.

Johnson isn’t telling  authorities where the baby is or whether or not he is alive. Gabriel was last seen December 26.
